Great Black and white Photographers part 3

Image
The thing that attracted me to Emmet Gowin's photos was just the way that he captured the people in his photos. I really liked the way that the pictures were taken and how beautiful he made his subjects look. I really like photos of people and I especially enjoy them when they are in black and white because it gives you less to focus on and you are able to focus on the main point of the picture rather than all the color distracting you. I see two people, probably in love, "wrestling" in the grass after a rainfall. I smell grass clippings after a heavy rainfall. I hear screaming and laughing as they play in the wet grass. I taste grass clippings that managed to find there way into my mouth. I feel the wet grass sticking to my skin. I see a woman staring at what I think to be a lake or pond, reflecting about life. I smell the water from the pond mixing with the smell of rain in the air. I hear birds starting to sing and animals starting to come out after the r...

Abandoned Theme Parks

Image
1. I'd really like to go to Spree-park in Berlin, Germany. I want to go there because the park just looks really cool and a little creepy, and the picture given for it is really cool with the ferris wheel. 3. I think it would be cool to go and take pictures at an abandoned warehouse, a construction zone, an empty parking garage, in a waterfall, or on an old bridge. 4. Photographers have taken photos in abandon warehouses both of people and also just of cool features. 5. I think that it would be cool to take pictures in an abandoned warehouse because usually they are older and older warehouses are made with really cool materials that would be great for a backdrop. Also warehouses are really big so you could find a lot of awesome spots to stop and take a photo. 6. First I'd need to find an abandoned warehouse and then I would have to get a ride, and i might have to get permission from someone from the city to enter the property.

Nick Brandt

The article was talking about all of his accomplishments and what he dies now in Africa. He helps support conservation projects to save animals in Africa. His pictures are powerful and the fact that he doesn't use lenses and he actually goes up to these potentially dangerous animals makes his work so much better. This is my favorite photo by him because it just looks cool and the fact that he was standing basically face to face with an elephant to take this picture. The photo is also just aesthetically pleasing. I would say that this picture uses the rule of simplicity because the elephant is being focused on because the background is very simple. I'd also say that he is using balance because you have the elephant in the middle and then the two big ears almost identical to each other balances out the photo. 1. He uses a medium format film camera. He uses a 55 mm, 105mm, and 200mm lens. 2. He takes photos like these because he cares about these animals that are being ...

Ethical

Image
This is probably the most ethical because all they did was change the lighting of the photo. Its not like they changed his appearance or put his head on another person. I think that this kind of editing is fine. It grabs the attention of the reader better than the original.

Unethical

Image
I think this was the most unethical photo because this was not even her body they just put her head on someone else and on top of that neither of the people were told about this.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1. I read a lot about people having there heads edited in onto the body of a model, and I saw a lot of changing the lighting after the photo was taken. 2. Newspapers like the Washington Post have very strict guidelines for editing photos and they are to never alter the colors of a photo. 3. I think that cropping a photo to limit the exposure is ok and I thing that filters and even touching up on small things like small facial blemishes are ok, but I don't think that putting someones head on another persons body is ok, and I don't think someone should be cut out of a photo.

2012 Winners

Image
1. I picked this photo because it looks cool and I like how the photographer was able to catch the paint drops flying in the air. 2. I'd say that simplicity is used in this photo because although the background is a human she is blurred so that your focus is drawn to the paint. 1. I liked this photo because the angle of the photo is able to shoe us what everyone is doing to help. 2. I'd say that simplicity is also being used in this photo because he is using the floor as the background and the floor is a simple checkered pattern that doesn't draw much attention. 3. Either in an art classroom or a science or math room. 4. I think it would be cool to take pictures in either Mr. Dammann's class or Ms. Mendez's class. 5. I could try getting more birds eye view pics or maybe make sure that my pictures are in focus.

The Story

Image
This photo tells a story and that story is that this kid worked really hard to pull this off. You can tell by his face that he is mesmerized by the fire he is holding in his hands. You can also tell that he is very proud of himself for being able to do this.

Filling the Frame

Image
This photo shows a lot of interesting things. You have the two people hunched over welding and you have the welding machines sending off sparks. Even the masks that the two people are wearing have flames on them which gives you more to look at.

Action and Emotion

Image
This photo shows action because all of the people around the parachute are making it possible for the main focus of the photo to be moved. The girl is being launched into the air and you can tell that she is moving because her hair is moving and just a little bit blurred. You can also tell that the girl is having a really good time and is happy.

Peer Reflection

https://carolannesphotoismblog.blogspot.com/2019/09/metal-this-is-metal-simplicity-picture.html I really like the way that she took the picture of the Canada Dry soda can, it is a perfect representation of the rule of simplicity. I also really like the picture she used for "square", it just has an appealing look and i think it is because she used the rule of thirds. On the picture for "Bowie" I think the picture would be better if "the kennel" was centered in the middle instead of the last paw-print being cut off. https://kyleblogo.blogspot.com/2019/09/prompt-shoot.html I especially like the picture used for the prompt "metal" I don't know wha it is about it but it just looks satisfying. And the photo used for "happy" was taken really well. I think for the "bowie" photo I don't think it was a good idea to frame it with his hands,.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. I had trouble getting good pictures of the prompts with the different rules of composition. I felt like there was much more photo opportunities using simplicity. 2. I attempted to make sure that everything in my pictures was straight and that the photo wasn't crooked. Even though I tried my best some of the pictures still turned out crooked. 3. I'd probably be more aware of different photo opportunities and take better pictures with the different rules of composition. I would also make sure to keep the photos from being blurry. 4. I would continue to pay close attention to the way I hold the camera and how straight the pictures come out. 5. No I don't think I would want to shoot the same prompts just because i want to explore new things not just stay on one topic.

Prompt Shoot 1

Image
Happy: This picture is using the balance rule of composition because the two girls sitting next to each other balance out the picture. Metal: This picture uses the composition rule of simplicity because the fire hydrant is focused on because the background is just simple and grey. Square: In this photo the red squares are being framed by the cement around them. Bowie: This photo uses the composition rule of lines because the lines between the bricks makes the photo more interesting.

Avoiding Mergers

Image
The woman in the photo is covered with some sort of yellow dust that is the same color of the dust filling the room she is in which makes it more difficult tp tell where she ends and the room begins.

Framing

The building in the center of the photo is framed by the two buildings on either side of the photographer.

Balance

Image
The man on one side covering his mouth balances with the what seems to be an enlarged water bottle and the other man standing beside him.

Lines

Image
In this photo the lines both draw attention to the man falling from the building and make the photo more interesting to look at.

Rule of Thirds

This photo represents the rule of thirds because the helicopter is positioned at one of the suggested places and makes the photo more interesting.

Simplicity

This picture represents simplicity because the man falling is the main focus of the photo and the simple background draws your attention to the man falling.
