Emmet Gowin

Emmet Gowin was born on December 22, 1941 in Danville, Virginia. He received a BFA in graphic design from the Richmond Professional Institute (now called Virginia Common Wealth University) and received his MFA in photography from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has received numerous awards and grants including two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships in 1977 and 1979, and the Friends of Photography Peer Award.
